Brainstromers

Welcome to Brainstormers

Kia ora, welcome to Brainstormers!

Brainstormers is a resource that has been designed to help discuss real life situations our tamariki face each day and to brainstorm solutions. In doing so we can shape the culture within our centres, give tamariki tools to use, create expectations, discuss fairness, rules and consequences.

This resources are free to use within your centre. Your feedback will be really important so I can expand and refine our collection. That means reviewing the pictures. sharing which ones work and which need some refinement as well as suggesting other scenarios.

I would also encourage kaiako to share ideas of how they deliver the program in a meaningful way within their centres.  What sort of scripts do you use? Do you use other tools at the same time? In this way we can create a community of brainstormers.

How to brainstorm

1, Can anyone see the problem in this picture?

what is happening? how might this person feel? What about the other person? there are no bad ideas but we can praise ideas that are more on track.

2, Time to brainstorm a solution

What could this person do/say to fix this problem?

3, Keep on Brainstorming

What other ideas could we try? what else could this person do or say? what could the other person say? Praise every original idea. We are teaching a process.

4, Practice

Choose an idea and ask a child to practice it "role play". If we practice new skills when we are calm we are more likely to remember them later when we have problems.
